How can we, as teachers of writing, help students develop a more expansive view of what writing is and can be? This session will explore the ways descriptive outlining can be used throughout the writing process to create writing experiences that engage students in rhetorical decision-making and develop their agency as effective and independent communicators. Participants will walk away with tools to increase student ownership of the writing process, to make the thinking of student writers visible, and reconsidering the value of the process over the product when developing student writing assignments.
