This session will be most valuable to science teachers. In the session I will present examples of developing models to construct explanations about science phenomena . This will be an introduction and brief example from a Modeling Instruction in Chemistry course that I attended through the American Modeling Teachers Association (https://www.modelinginstruction.org/). Colleagues will participate in asking questions, analyzing data, developing models, constructing explanations, and communicating information in a board meeting. Teachers will walk away with an understanding of modeling instruction and ideas on how to have students use whiteboards to develop shared understanding of science concepts. The phenomenom that I plan to present could be used as an introductory lesson on matter, gases, or the kinetic molecular theory.
