The goal of this workshop is to demonstrate how standing whiteboards can benefit any content area by creating a space where people can "mobilize the knowlege" in the room. All participants will engage in thinking tasks at standing whiteboards, just like students. It is our intention to have thinking tasks that can be used in different content areas. Research shows that when students are problem solving at standing whiteboards engagement increases significantly. Each group has one marker and the person with the marker writes ONLY the thoughts of their peers. This increases the opportunity for group discussion and problem solving. Intentional managing of the marker also ensures all participants have an opportunity to talk and write. The visibility of standing whiteboards also gives teachers the chance to celebrate the multiple strategies used to tackle the task.
