Tired of your students staring blankly at you while simultaneously possessing an utterly blank page? Try sorting! There is no chance for blanks because students have the ingredients for a perfect recipe, they just need to put those ingredients in places that make sense. See their thinking, question their reasoning, and encourage conversations among students while they seek compromise. Most examples provided will be from science, but can easily be connected with most content areas.
