This session will be geared toward any STEM teacher who wants to use real-world phenomena to engage students in their lessons. Phenomena-based teaching aims to cover content standards by first posing questions that students can connect with. Often, students have observed these phenomena but never questioned their causes or deeper implications. By employing the Socratic method and asking probing questions, teachers can gain insight into students' perceptions and misconceptions about a topic. Moreover, when students realize that others share similar insights, they can feel more comfortable discussing their understanding of a topic in a safe space.
