Any teacher working with immigrants or students of a different cultural background should attend this presentation. Culture does not stop at the classroom door. Students bring their culture into the classroom. If teachers do not have an understanding of different cultural norms, it doesn't matter how good their lessons are. Students need, first and foremost, a safe learning environment. If students do not feel safe or that they themselves are not understood or valued, learning will be impeded and outcomes will be low if not dismal.
My presentation teaches teachers to have greater awareness and sensitivity to cultural norms around the globe. Having an understanding of a variety of culture differences can make the difference between a good educator and a great educator.
Participants will play a game which challenges their knowledge of Customs, Festivals & Holidays (like Ramadan, Chinese New Year, Passover, Holi, etc.), Superstitions, Food & Drink, and Do's & Taboos in 90 countries around the globe.
