Science teachers, but more specifically chemistry teachers. They will learn about how to change instructional approaches to ensure the use of 3-dimensional teaching with NGSS. In particular they will see how phenomena can be used to DRIVE a unit. This will include examples of how to introduce a phenomenon, create initial models, perform a Driving question board, and use the activity summary board to keep track of learning throughout the unit. Participants will get to put on their learner hat to experience this as a student (in a very quick approach) as well as have a chance to look at each of the instructional approaches I use. I will present on my earth's energy unit (which is a tricky one for chemistry teachers who are new to NGSS). This will help teachers to get a better picture of how to implement NGSS and hopefully help them see the benefits of its use for both the students and the teachers (much more engaging lessons!).
